Hey guys. What’s good? Today’s DIY is this AMAZING red full-length vest!!!. Guys you know what, I’m so blessed in MANY ways and with one of them being able to duplicate, replicate, create and produce some amazing pieces of clothing along with so many other things. Since my youth, I’ve always been crafty and intrigued in how certain things were made and how I could  recreate that particular thing(whatever that may be). So once I entered into Jr. High, home economic was my favorite course, because while I was at school, it still allowed me to fully engage in what I enjoyed the most e.g., cooking, sewing, household skills, decorating, and so much more, things that I would normally do at home(yea I’m a homemaker type of a gal, just call me Suzy homemaker..HA!).Ya’ll I just like creating STUFF….anything DIY gets my undivided attention. I promise before I buy certain items, I’m always thinking….. hmmmm I wonder if I could make that. Honestly, I believe if I really gave my all into all things DIY, I could easily slash my spending expenses in half, BUT unfortunately time and just life hasn’t allotted me that luxury. Ok enough with my ramblings and on to this cutie right here. I’m head over heels with the solid red color, the lapel collar, the pocket action and that its sleeveless. Oh and it has a back slit, which provides me more mobility while walking.

Once again, I present to you all another “almost” UFO(unfinished outfit) that I started working on about a year ago, only to resume finishing it up within the last week. So you ask, what took me so long to complete it? Well like I mentioned in a previous post, once I start working on a project and if I hit a rough patch concerning the construction of the garment, the thrill is gone and I typically move on to the next project, unless its something I am absolutely determined to finish. Needless to say, I hit that patch and moved on.

Ok so there where 2 issues about this vest that I didn’t like. I’m not trilled about how the front 2 panels(I’m not sure what to call them) wont lay completely flat. I don’t like the fact that when I walk the panels will puff up with air and expand vs lying flat….if that makes sense. I tried the top stitch options, but to no avail and lastly, because of my laziness I serged the whole vest with black thread… looked so tacky with the red fabric. Yes, at the time I was to tired to change out the serger thread. Fast forward to the current. I’m accepting the side panels catching air as I walk..SIGH… and I went back over the vest and cut off most of the black serger thread and re-serged it with red thread. Conclusion: I’m at peace with it and find myself loving it even more, because of the versatility. It can be dressed up with a nice pair of slacks or skirt or it can be dressed down with a nice pair of jeans or shorts.

Be Blessed. I hope you like this look and enjoyed the post.

Hey yall! Over the weekend I shared this CRA-mazing repurposed purse with my fellow instagramers and Facebook buddies and now I’m sharing it with my blog audience. Here we go………Drrrrrrrummm-roll, please. Da-da-da-dum. Lol. Ok so my Sunday remix was repurposed using this old Fendi purse circa 2004, so yeah it’s pretty old and beat up. I had to search high and low for this baby. Anyway, it had some major wear and tear damage and because of that it became not useful, hence I decided to reinvent it into something that could be useful. Below are some of the steps I took to turn this mid-size purse into a small fold-over clutch purse.

Be Blessed and I hope you all LOVE this remix and enjoyed the post.

*****I cut the purse open by cutting off the both ends of the purse

****Removed all of the hardware, the top portion of the purse and the inside pocket

****Pulled the lining back so that I can get to the gut of the purse

****Created these 2 small holes on the center leather strap in order to add the magnetic snap.

****Added the magnetic snap

****Once I situated the purse the way in which I was pleased with, I then was able to sew the inside pocket back into the purse

****So here is the finished project. A fully lined with an inside pocket fold-over clutch purse. Also, there were a few sprinkles of white paint on the purse, which I believe came from lying dormant in my closet on the this white painted rack….who knows, anyway, I used some brown polish to conceal those white spots.

Hey guys. I hope everyone enjoyed their fantastic 3 day weekend! Okay so I’m giving you guys a 2 for 1 dose of creativity…HA! This DIY Ankara print lightweight jacket is an oldie which I made roughly around a year ago, but unfortunately never got a chance to rock it, because I wasn’t 100% percent sold on it. However, after looking through my fabric stash, I came across her and I thought to myself, let’s me see if I can make something work with this jacket and voila, she came through. Moving on, so I paired this jacket with an old pair of Zara pants that I’ve had for maybe 12 years now, HOWEVER, they were to short, so my creativity light bulb came on and I decided to cut about 3 inches of fabric out around the calve area and then I re-attached the flare part of the bottom of the pants to that same area that I originally cut out in order to create these ankle length flare pants. Easy right (smile).

Be Blessed. I hope you like this look and enjoyed the post.

Hello Guys. This DIY tunic was made using this super easy digital pattern from the Beaute Jadore collection. This was my very first time using a digital pattern. I normally would steer away from digital patterns, because of fear and my ignorance in reference to how simple these patterns really are. Lets just say, I will purchasing many more from this point forth. When I came across Beaute Jadore wearing this tunic on my instagram feed, I quickly purchased it and got busy working on it.

I like the fact that this tunic is not complicated to wear, it’s simple, stylish, classy, and I like how the gathered side that shows off a little skin gives it a little sassiness. Again, I say that this pattern was simple because it was only 4 pieces and with a back zipper….not to complicated right, however the pattern suggest that you can use silk as one of the fabric option, but after using polyester which is close to silk, I would have to disagree. With this pattern I would strictly suggest using stretch material and I say this because once you gather the side and if you’re using any other fabric than something stretchy, it will cause the back of the tunic to twist, which is not cute and frustrating. NOTE: again, I strongly suggest using ONLY stretch material if you want the back of the tunic and centered zipper to stay centered once the side is gathered. Well while that was a major issues and disappointment for me, overall I like the top and think its really cute and funky.

Be Blessed. I hope you all like this look and enjoyed this post.

Happy Saturday. I’m still here in the DR and loving it, however I put a few minutes aside to photograph another one of my DIY pieces. A while back a young lady sent me a pic of this jumpsuit and asked if I could make this jumpsuit for her and I quickly accepted the request. Lets just say, she was pleased. Any who, I thought to myself and said self, I think this would be another winner for your Dominican Republic trip, so guess what, I decided to copy her outfit….LOL. I Made the pants using a simplicity pattern that unfortunately I cant seem to remember at the moment and the bodice was self-drafted. The outfit is so cute, but I especially like the strappy back and the wide leg pants.

I picked up this blue and white striped with red embroidery fabric from Jo Ann fabric. When I purchased the fabric, I had already decided that I wanted the bottom of the pants to end with the embroidery portion, the end of the back tie, and on a portion of the bodice. Because the way the fabric was cut, I had to be strategic with the way I cut the pattern pieces out to achieve this desired look. Overall I’m very pleased and will making this again in the near future.

Be Blessed and I hope you all like this look and enjoyed the post.

Pattern Review

BURDA PATTERN REVIEW 6966 – Extra Wide Leg Pants

This pattern was pretty easy. I do wish i had picked another color besides white. Overall i really like the pattern and I was able to make these pretty quick. You only have 3 pieces to cut.

First sew your darts. On all pieces according to the pattern.

Then stitch your leg sides closed

Your gonna have one leg right side out and one not.

Follow the pattern and put one leg in the other and stitch the crotch area. Pull the legs out like the next picture

You basted stitched the first 4 or 5 inches (review pattern) on your back pants for your zipper area. Now add your zipper.

Secure your waistband according to the pattern directions and book you have a cool pair of wide leg pants. I plan to make these in a couple more colors.

Overall this was the pattern was super duper easy. This would be a great project for someone learning how to sew clothing.

Super late post Hey guys. Its “hump day”. I’m sharing this 2 piece DIY getup and this DIY printed half-calf/lamb leather folder-over clutch purse all the way from Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic that is 😀😀😀. This is the perfect outfit, vacation spot and Punta Cana is the perfect place to capture some beautiful serene pics. So I made this outfit using Mcalls 7757 pattern.  I’ve always had a love for wide leg pants, so when I saw this DIY popping up on my Instagram timeline made by some of my fellow seamstress, I was like yes, this is must. I headed straight to Jo Ann fabrics, picked out this gorgeous green fabric, and started working on this baby in 2.5 seconds…LITERALLY…lol. It was pretty easy to sew up. It took me around 2 1/2 hours to complete both pieces. I would totally recommend this pattern because of the simplicity. Well guys, I’m going to leave it here, so that I can head back to lying out on the beach to soak up some more sun and sip on delicious fruity drinks🌞.

Be Blessed. I hope you all like this look and enjoyed the post.

Splash Memories Resort – Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – REVIEW

Hi everyone:  So, if you follow us on social media @kimandtonia you know that we went on a six day vacation this past week to Punta Cana.  I will be posting several reviews on our visit, the things we did and what I liked and disliked about it.  This review is on the resort.

We arrived at our hotel early afternoon, checked in and began to explore.  The Resort was a 2 area resort that was combined on each end of the compound.  The resorts were Splash Memories and The Royalton.  We stayed at Splash Memories.  If we had known that the other resort was a little more elegant and less family oriented we probably would have chosen that one while booking.

–        The room was just ok.  The furniture was kind of old.  There was nothing Luxury about it but it did the job for sleeping and chilling out.  After all, you don’t go out of town to always be hanging in the hotel room all the time do you?

–        The floors were white tiled, the bathroom had warm water to bathe in.  (I personally like my water a little hotter)

–        The room came with a refrigerator that worked in my room but did not work in Kim’s room.

–        Our room had a patio with a table and chairs.  It was nothing special but nice to have if you liked to sit outside and people watch.  We had a direct view of one of the pools.

–        If you had time for TV, they had a 32 inch television mounted on the wall and surprisingly had tons of channels to watch.  You also had to option to watch TV in various languages.

–        The Resort Wi-Fi was actually really great.  As you go closer to the other property (The Royalton) it would get sketchy but still worked.

–        The Resort was nicely landscaped and you could walk and admire the property or you could hop on the trolley that stopped in different areas of the resort to drop people to their desired destination.

–        This Resort was kid friendly.

–        There was a nice sized water park with big water slides that your kids or event grown-ups would love.

–        This property is not on the beach so you would have to go over to the Royalton, which is right on the beach, in order swim in the ocean or sunbathe.

–        This Resort had bars all over for your convenience of grabbing a drink.

–        The staff was always nice and knowledgeable.  They did not always speak English though.

–        The men can sometimes get touchy feely.  I had a guy trying to sell me something to kiss me on my cheek at least 10 times.  It was kind of disturbing.  All throughout the resort the men can be flirty and touchy feely.

–        We did not see a lot of women but most of the ones that we did see at least said hello.

–        Beware of the people trying to sell you things on the resort property.  Several times they got pissed when we told them no and that we did not want to buy anything.  It was very uncomfortable.  They really try to pressure you into purchasing.

Food and Drinks

–        The drinks were almost always watered down.  You could hardly taste any alcohol.  I’m not a big drinker and noticed it.  I assume that they water the drinks down because it’s all-inclusive and I don’t know, they may be trying to save money.

–        The food was not good at all.  Especially when you compare it to American food.  I don’t think we were trying to compare it though but that it just was not good.  I am more specifically talking about the buffet.  Stay away…. No seriously…. STAY AWAY if you can.  We pretty much ate at the sister resort (The Royalton) every day.  They had a little bar and grill with American food like wings and burgers.  They also had a Steakhouse that was really good.  The Steakhouse was not inclusive but it was worth the $15 to eat there.

–        When leaving the resort and heading to the airport, some of the other guests complained about the food and said that they had and some others had caught food poisoning.   One guy said he would pay $50 if he could get a good burger right then.  HAHAHA…. It was funny.  But the bad food seemed to be the consensus with us tourists.

Activities on the Resort

–        Please be aware that there is not much to do after seven pm on this resort.  The pools and Water Park close at 6 pm.  The restaurants stay open pretty late.  The beach is open always too but after dark you can’t see much.  We were looking for parties but there were none on our resort.  I heard that some of the other resorts had party venues but you had to know someone to get in them.  Because of how the areas looked outside of the resort, we were kind of scared to leave without a chaperone.  So, if you need that night life, I say stay at a resort with at least a club you can go to on the compound.

Overall, I would give this resort a 5 or 6 stars out of 10.  It is not too bad to stay there but it’s not great.  If you are a family, I would give it a higher rating, maybe a 7 or 8.  If you are a group of singles or a couple, you may want to try a more lively resort that has a night life and night time activities that you would enjoy.

DIY Refashion

Sunday Remix – Dress Refashion

Morning and Happy Sunday guys,  I found this dress at Good Will a few weeks ago.  I thought I would buy it since it had a lot of fabric to work with.  My intention was to make an off shoulder top and so that is what I did.  The dress had a rip at the bottom which I didn’t realize so I had to work around it.  I feel ripped off with the $6 price .  But I have moved on now….   It is cute.   This is just a casual throw on top for me with a pair of jeans.

Time capsule Tuesday – Headboard Makeover

Time Capsule Tuesday… lol – I know, I know….  I just made that up.  😋🤣 I just wanted to show you my old headboard that I got from Pier One a few years ago.  The foe leather started to peel and so I decided to recover it.  I don’t have all the steps with the pictures but here is what I did in 3 steps…

  1. Looked for the screws on the back of the headboard and unscrewed them, removing the inner wood with the foe leather fabric on it.

  1. I didn’t remove the foe leather fabric I just recovered it with some fabric from my hoarding stash. 🤪 I used a staple gun to secure the fabric tightly.

  1. Next, I put the screws back in and there you have it. A brand new refashioned headboard.  Not to mention a new look for my space.

Take an old head board from the thrift store or in your home and redo it without spending hundreds of dollars on a new one.

Hey Guys. Late Post. So I made this dress last week and I finally have a chance to post about it. I made this top/skirt=dress 😀using New Look pattern 6508. This is another one of my all time favorite DIY pieces.

1st off, the most amazing part of this dress is how you can connect the 2 pieces together in the front by buttoning them up and or both pieces can stand alone if you chose to wear them that way. 2nd I’m in love the color, it’s fun, youthful and vibrant. 3rd the back of the dress is pretty fly as well and 4th it came together pretty easily with the exception of a few things I would do over.

If I chose to make this dress again, I would shorten the length, find another BOMB color and make adjustments to the button placements at the bottom corners on each end of the bodice. I placed the button holes based off where the pattern stated they should be, however because I followed the pattern steps, it left the very bottom ends of the top just flying in the wind and sticking out (I hand stitched those lose ends of the top to the skirt). So, if I make it again, the next time I will place the button holes at the very end of each bottom corner of the top, therefore, they will lie down with ease once both pieces are buttoning up…..WHEW…..I hope I didn’t make that to confusing. And lastly, the pattern only required that you line the bodice, but the next I will line the both pieces. Overall, this is one DIY I’ll be keeping in my stash for a long time.

Be blessed. I hope you all like the pics and enjoyed the post.

Pattern Review

Pattern Review -Simplicity 2406 (Cynthia Rowley) – Behind the Seams Pics

This may look like a simple dress but those darn sleeves really worked my nerves. I did however find a blog HERE that explained the sleeve a little better but not much better. But after a grueling 40 days and 40 nights i pulled through (just kidding). I was gonna try and do a sew along on this one but decided not to at this time.

This pattern came out i think in 2011. It’s still cute and fashionable. I’ve had the pattern in my stash forever so i decided to make it. I completed view B. I give this pattern a C+ because of the sleeves and the not so clear instructions of the pattern. You will be happy with it when you have completed it if you ever get it done. So if you’re making this pattern, stay strong and keep going even when you want to quit.

DISCLAIMER: We are all adults. I am not endorsing Botox for anyone. I am just showing you my experience. I do this because I want to, it’s a personal choice and it makes me happy.

I know a lot of women (black women) don’t talk about getting Botox.  It’s like it’s all secrety and is to never be spoken of ever.   Lets be real, every one wants to be happy with themselves and the way they look.  More and more women are having cosmetic procedures done.  Ten years ago, you did not talk about it.  If you got a nose job or a butt lift, you didn’t talk about it for fear of back lash or being judged.

Well most of my friends know that I am an open book type of girl.  I speak my mind and I talk freely about myself and just life in general.  I think you should do what makes you happy.  If you want a skinny nose, or a better shaped booty.  YOU SHOULD GET IT DONE!!!!!! Especially if it makes YOU happy.

Now that I am in my mid 40’s, I am all about cosmetic procedures.  I am going down swinging at them wrinkles chile.  I mean, I want to age and live to be 200 but I want to look good as I get there.  My face will be snatched like Cynthia Bailey’s face on Housewives of Atlanta. 🤣

I got my first Botox injections at I think age 37.  I still have the video I did on YouTube. (see below)  Lol.. See below.  Looking back at this video… hahaha.  What the?  And those eyebrows. Lol. But anyway… it is what it is?   I really liked the results but I was not happy about the price.

There are ways to get Botox at half the price or really cheap. Today, I use method #1 (below).

1. Be a model at the Botox training for Nurse Practitioners.  There are several companies that offer this and you will get your injections for half of the price.  Man do I save money.

2. Groupon – they have specials all the time in your city for Botox injections usually pretty darn cheap.

3. Nurse friend – I don’t have a Nurse Practitioner as a friend but hey if you do, maybe she will hook you up.

I haven’t been consistent with getting my injections on time, usually every 3 months.  The last time I got them, it was December 2017.  Yeah, almost 6 months ago.  🙄

The next time I get the procedure (which will be really soon), I will show you my experience and more detail with the process of getting them and how the injections turned out.  When I posted this video years ago, I could not find any African American women Botox videos.  That is part of the reason why i posted it.

Happy Sunday. Quick Post. I’m just sharing with you guys this very unique and trendy top that was made using Mccalls pattern 7724. How cute is this top? I like how I’m giving you all the best of both worlds in reference to on one side your getting that off the shoulder look and on the other side I’m giving you the cold shoulder….HA….Great combination, right :-). I chose almost the exact same fabric choices presented on the envelope because the color combo and print is dope :-). Again this was quick post and I’ll talk to you guys later.

Be Blessed. I hope you all like this look and enjoyed the post.

Happy Tuesday. Today’s DIY is this sleeveless top with a ruffle detail using Simplicity pattern 8512. While I was going on my JoAnn fabric 99 cents pattern splurge, I came across this pattern and instantly knew I had to make this top. There’re various style options for this top, so of course I chose variation “D” because I like ALL THINGS UNIQUE AND FLY…… YEP :-). I chose this light weight sheer polyester fabric because it just seemed more functional for this style of top. I wanted the ruffle detail of this top to be light in weight and flowy. Overall I found this top easy and quick to whip up, HOWEVER when attaching the ruffle detail, just make sure its  properly centered, because when I finally tried my top on, I noticed that it wasn’t proportioned, which made me have to slightly twist the top to make the back zipper centered along with the ruffle being centered, but then that caused the front of the top to be twisted on one side in the front…WHEW that was a lot. POINT….please don’t make the same mistake I originally made, by making sure the ruffle is precisely centered when being attached. I hope this post will be helpful to a fellow seamstress.

Be Blessed. I hope you like this look and enjoyed the post.
